DescriptionThis artwork was graciously donated by Pierre Vayda, a friend of the Burlington Art Centre. Alberto Viani, was an Italian sculptor, who lived between 1906-1989. Alberto attended the Accademia di Belle Arti di Venezia where he studied his eventual passion for sculpture under the tutelage of Arturo Martini. He began to exhibit his works in 1944 and quickly accumulated international recognition. He presented many times at the Biennale of Venice - in 1952 he received the Venice Award and then the International Award for his sculpture in 1966. Alberto passed away in 1989 yet he is remembered by his many sculptures populating the Italian and many international museums. Alberto also showed a talent for carpentry and designed and built several items of furniture that carried subtle influences of his aesthetic for curvature. |
