Description

It is a love of nature that continually inspires me to paint. The landscape, forest, trails, flowers, streams, skies are always changing from the coming of a new season or the time of day, or the forces of weather, decay and often the influence of man. Colours are affected by light and the season, textures by weather and decay, and patterns often by man. I have found that my perspective can also change, a well known trail can become mysterious or even threatening depending on my own mood. Pastel is a medium that allows me to capture the immediacy of the landscape as well as the bold colours and textures. Both Late Summer Colours and Dogwoods in Early Spring reflect the changing seasons and both are local landscapes, noted while out walking on trails in North Burlington and Carlisle.

Heidi Rohde is a Burlington Artist whose work is inspired primarily by nature, particularly the escarpment landscape, the forest trails, farmers fields and shorelines. Born in Germany, she grew up in Canada and has lived in the Burlington area for most of her life. A graduate of McMaster University where she studied both English and Art, she taught High School English and Art until her retirement. Since then she has been able to devote her time to drawing and painting for herself, at first in Pastel and Watercolour and most recently Acrylic. She continues to teach and to learn through many courses and workshops at The Oakville Art Society, Burlington Art Centre and Pastel Artists Canada. Heidi is a signature member of Pastel Artists Canada, a member and Gallery Director of the Oakville Art Society, a member of Fine Arts Society of Milton and a member of the Burlington Fine Arts Association.
