DescriptionThe mythology of bears is common to the history of most cultures of the northern hemisphere, and they are celebrated in ancient legends as the symbols of courage, power and wisdom. "Polar Bear Games" brings together a party of Canada's northern wildlife in whimsical, imagined winter games, with the celebrated Polar Bear at the heart of the action under spectacular northern skies. An artist, illustrator and teacher living in southwestern Ontario, Frances works in the vibrant medium of watercolour. She is a successful illustrator of internationally published childrens books, including The Huron Carol, Kates Castle, The Worker in Sandalwood, Woodland Christmas and Woodland Nutcracker. Her work has been short-listed for prestigious awards, has been included in many exhibitions, and her magazine series, The Illustrated Fairy Gazettes, created with Avril Tyrrell, is now in print. Frances' work has been included in numerous exhibitions and is part of collections in Ontario, Alberta and British Columbia. In 2007, the museum at Saint Marie Among the Hurons created a permanent Huron Carol installation, featuring Frances Huron Carol images. |
